Greeting on July 4th!
Greeting on July 4th!
July 4, 2008I set up this website in February 2008 with the promise that I would contribute regularly. I was meaning to add a piece at least once a month. Well this is only my second post and it's July. I don't suppose you want the reasons. Suffice it to say that now I'm ready to write.
I want this website to be about me--a topic I know most about. But it is also musings about what I see, hear, discover, and learn about throughout the year. I love reflective writing it helps me think more deeply about my experiences. But writing takes courage! The courage to write is probably my biggest obstacle. In the end, it's not an expansive vocabulary, good spelling, time, or editing knowledge that counts in writing; it's courage. (I'm not even sure if that is the correct use of a semi-colon, but it works for me.) I'm not even sure day-to-day if I have all that much to say, but I will try to follow the advice my mother gave me years ago; practice, practice, practice. (There's that damn semi-colon again. I must look up how to use it.) For anything in life requires desire, determination, and practice.
This seems like a good place to end. I will go back to my daughters, who are gaining strength in craziness by chasing each other around and screaming at the top of their lungs. They are supposed to be getting ready for bed. Please stop by again and leave a comment.

Today, I had one of those proud moments that you sometimes have as a parent. When there's no whining, no wanting, no "it's not fair!" ringing in my ear. On the way home from a successful trip to the mall my daughter's were sharing, yes that's right sharing, a handful of sweet tart type candies purchased on the way out of the mall from one of those gumball machines. I had only a quarter in my pocket as we waited for dad to come round with the car. Leila, my eldest, had never had a candy from one of these machines. I gave in to the asking. When a handful came out, Leila said, "Do they have a bag for me to put them in?" I wondered who they were but instead suggested she put them in the pocket of her coat. She did. Marlee, my youngest, was quite content (miraculously) to have Leila hand her the candies when she asked. And, ask she did."Can I have a red one Leila?" I worried that Leila would not be able to pull out a red one on demand. But to my surprize she did and she said, "Mommy, Marlee's lucky because she asked for a red one and I pulled it out." I smiled at her and said in response, "I'm the luckiest one of all."
"Why mommy?" Leila questioned.
"Because I have you two." I said.
Leila smiled so sweetly to the compliment and then whispered to Marlee, "We're lucky too Marlee."
